There is no doubting that when Southampton sacked Nigel Adkins many people though that this move by the Saints board had signed their own death warrant in terms of survival in the Premier League, but as it turns out, it may have been a stroke of genius.
Nine games into Maurico Pochettino’s rein as Southampton manager and the Saints couldn’t have hoped for a better response from the players of the relegation threatened club.
The South coast club have only lost three games since the arrival of their Argentinian saviour and there is no doubting that he has instilled a sense of belief among his players and none more so than Jay Rodriguez.
The Lancashire lad has picked up four goals and six assists since Pochettino’s arrival and having notched up three goal and two assists in his last three games he looks to be emerging as a real fantasy differential for fantasy managers to consider.
As far as the fixture list is concerned with home games against West Ham and West Brom and a trip to Swansea in the next three, he looks to have the right games to continue his recent run of form and at the rate he is going it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore him.
The worry of course for many is that once the Saints hit that magical 40 point mark, of which they are only three points away from, their performances may begin to taper off, but with huge sums of money at stake and with the former Burnley lad looking for his first cap, he and Southampton could well charge on until the end of the season and if that is the case then fantasy managers will want to have him in their side.
