As the season comes to a climax fantasy managers will have to be on the ball when it comes to identifying those teams that still have something to play for and are likely to put in that extra challenge to help save their sides.
Looking at the recent defensive performances there are a number of players who still have a lot to play for and also possess a threat going forward and it is these players that fantasy managers will want to target heading into the final weeks of the season.
As for round 32, our coaches here in the managers office have been hard at work looking at all the possibilities and come up with their usual short list of defenders that fantasy managers should be considering ahead of this weekend’s action.
Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) £4.1 Fixture: Everton (Home)
Last weekend against Swansea Jan Vertonghen made it into the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League team by matching Gareth Bale as they both scored and assisted each other.
Russell Martin (Norwich) £3.1 million Fixture: Swansea (Home)
Scottish International Russell Martin is having a great season for Norwich as he enters the peak of his footballing career. After joining Norwich in 2010 he was an integral part of the Norwich team that gained promotion two years ago.
Jose Enrique (Liverpool) £4.1 million Fixture: West Ham (Home)
Since returning from injury in February Jose Enrique has had mixed returns for Liverpool. Although some questions have been asked about his performances by some critics he is still an attacking threat and there appears to be no sign of Brendan Rogers dropping him.
Nacho Monreal (Arsenal) £4.2 million Fixture: West Brom (Away)
The former Malaga man again makes it into our thinking for round 32 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League. Arsenal are under severe pressure to maintain their Champions League entry that Wenger has achieved at a minimum for the last sixteen years.
