Arouna Kone justified making it into our tips this week after scoring a late winner to help Wigan beat Norwich 1-0 to move out of the relegation zone in the Premier League.
Jordi Gomez passed the ball to the Ivorian who hit a hard low shot past the Canaries third choice keeper Lee Camp. The goal was scored as Wigan pressed Norwich with Gomez, McCarthy and Alcaraz all close to scoring.
After the match Roberto Martinez really summed up Wigan’s performance.
“I don’t think we were stylish as we normally are, but what we showed is an incredible character. Every player found a way to help the team to keep Norwich very quiet.
“To restrict any team in the Premier League to no shots on target requires massive effort. And then it was that little bit of quality at the other end.
“It seemed it couldn’t quite fall for us but that’s as good a goal as you’re going to see in this league. The ball from Jordi Gomez was a fantastic, clinical ball, and the finish of Arouna Kone was just what he deserved for his work ethic.”
Kone has now scored four goals in his last four Premier League appearances and when we look back over his last seven appearances he has provided fantasy premier league managers with six goals and an assist.
Wigan have fixtures coming up against West Ham, QPR and two games in round 36 of the Irish Times fantasy premier league. Further investment is expected in Wigan’s best forward as their good run of from looks set to continue.
