When the news broke at the start of the month that Everton’s number one Tim Howard had broken two bones in his back fantasy managers could have been forgiven for thinking that the Toffee’s clean sheet prospects for the season would have taken a dip, but that hasn’t been the case.
With Howard out of action Everton called upon Jan Mucha to take the American’s place between the sticks and it seems to have worked a treat.
Having put on a decent display in his first game this season Mucha conceded just the one goal against Reading in round 28, but no one could have expected that the Slovakian international would go onto claim a clean sheet against Manchester City last time out.
A clean sheet against the Champions last time out has shown that he has the capability to keep the Toffee’s on track in the absence of the Howard as they go in search of European football next season.
Everton welcome Stoke to Goodison Park this weekend and they well be keen to find their third win in row against a Potters side that have come under increasingly more pressure over recent weeks as their season begins to taper off.
Tony Pulis’s side have only managed two goals in their last eight away games and look to be having serious problems in front of goal heading into this weekend’s clash with the Toffee’s.
With David Moyes side looking likely to finish off the season with their usual flourish Stoke will find it difficult to succeed where Manchester City failed.
