Manchester United beat managerless Reading 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a deflected strike scored by Wayne Rooney early in the first half. The win put the Red Devils 15 points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City but was not much of a spectacle for United fans or fantasy football fans alike on Saturday evening.
Rooney or Van Persie?
The game really highlighted the question most fantasy premier league managers have been asking over the last few weeks, is it finally time to sell Robin Van Persie?
Van Persie has a record over the last six games that would be considered acceptable (1 goal and 3 assists) for any other player considering he had an injury and game time reduced because of Champions League commitments but this week saw a level of frustration that we have not seen from the Dutchman in a Manchester United jersey.
Many fantasy premier league managers have already shipped out the Dutchman and they were watching this game closely with fear as many had selected him as captain. Van Persie had numerous chances and he showed frustration with himself as he failed to show the form that had brought him all the attention he has received over the last two fantasy football seasons.
Wayne Rooney scored and that brings his Fantasy Football contribution to 21 out of 21 games as Rooney has scored 12 goals and picked up 9 assists in his 21 premier league appearances this season. His record in 2013 is even more remarkable as he has scored seven goals in eight games at Old Trafford.
Robin Van Persie will always be a goal threat and each week that you play without him in your team you are always going to be hoping he has not scored but at present he does not look likely to score every week so perhaps its the ideal time to switch to Rooney, Suarez, Benteke or even Kone!
