Fantasy Football Tips: Defenders For Round 29 Of The Irish Times Fantasy Premier League

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 at 12:23 pm by Phil Mc Grath

Having looked at the goalkeeping potential on display we turn out attention to defenders for round 29 Of The Irish Times Fantasy Premier League and while our selections are somewhat limited due to the amount of teams that are set the feature there are still clean sheets to be found.

Of course another key attribute for a defender to have is the ability to grab attacking points and while none of the players listed below are guaranteed to pick up a goal or an assist this weekend it doesn’t hurt to know that they all possess a threat going forward, should the clean sheet not materialize.

Davide Santon (Newcastle) £3.6 million Fixture: Stoke (Home)

Alan Pardew’s side looked at one point to be heading down a slippery slope at one point this season, but thanks to a run of games that has seen them pick up nine points from six games their relegation worries look to be easing off.

Sebastien Bassong (Norwich) £3.8 million Fixture: Southampton (Home)

Having failed to keep a clean sheet nine games Chris Hughton’s side have gone on to pick up three in their last seven, with two of those coming at home against Newcastle and Fulham.

Christopher Samba (QPR) £3.4 million Fixture: Sunderland (Home)

The former Blackburn defender has had a good impact since his arrival in January and despite the fact that Harry’s men have lost their last three games they have actually kept four clean sheets at home this season, which is more than Tottenham can say.

Ian Harte (Reading) £3.3 million Fixture: Aston Villa (Home)

Having made the move to Reading from Carlisle in 2010 Harte was an integral part of the Royals side that gained promotion to the Premier League this season and although his game time has been limited it would seem that having started the last ten games his place is no long in doubt.
