With the limited amount of games set to played in round 29 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League fantasy managers will be forced to look elsewhere as they try and put together a starting XI and once such place that is worth considering in the Norwich defence.
Sebastien Bassong is one such Norwich defender that comes to mind for the impending fixture week as the Canaries take on Southampton at Carrow Road.
Norwich’s season has been somewhat up and down and after a rather poor middle half to the season they seem to be pulling it together at just the right time as they prepare for the final run in.
Having failed to keep a clean sheet nine games Chris Hughton’s side have gone on to pick up three in their last seven, with two of those coming at home against Newcastle and Fulham.
While Southampton have it all to play for in round 29 a trip to Norwich will be no easy task as many teams including the current league leaders will testify and the feeling is that of the Canaries can keep Rickie Lambert quite they will stand a good chance of picking up their seventh clean sheet of the season.
Looking past round 29 it is worth noting that there is value in the Norwich defence and Bassong in particular ,with a somewhat favourable run of fixtures to come against Sunderland, Wigan and Reading in their next six Bassong certainly isn’t one to bring in just for a week.
Of course there is one aspect of Bassong’s game that we have until now overlooked and that is he threat going forward, the Canaries center half has three goals and two assists to his name this season and while goals and assists are not assured it is always worth having a defender who can grab the odd one or two from time to time.
