The news of Robin van Persie’s injury was one that sent shock waves through the fantasy football fraternity and left many fantasy premier league managers wondering just what to do in the absence of the league leading goal scorer.
Well although the injury to van Persie is not that serious he is likely to be rested ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League second leg tie against Real Madrid meaning that fantasy managers are likely to be without the Dutch striker until round 30, as United currently have no game in round 29.
United welcome Norwich to Old Trafford this weekend and with many expecting United to do well the obvious answer to the RVP problem is to do a straight swap for Rooney.
Admittedly Rooney’s season has been up and down from a fantasy perspective but there is no doubting his ability and with RVP on the sidelines we could well see the return of Rooney of old as he leads the line of the United attack.
Of course it’s not been all bad for Rooney this season, the England international has 10 goals and 7 assists to his credit this season, which although is less than we usually see from him, it’s still not a bad return all things considered.
Norwich make the trip to Manchester having beaten Everton last time out and despite the fact that they managed to put two past the Toffee’s they have been struggling to put together constant performances in recent weeks.
In truth Norwich look unlikely to be able to cope with the United attack and considering that fact that the Canaries have conceded three or more goals in three different away games this season, Rooney could be odds on to grab another few goals as he attempts to find his goal scoring touch ahead of United’s game with Real Madrid.
