With round 27 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League coming to a close last night as Tottenham saw off West Ham 3-2, it was a rather disappointing week in terms of clean sheets for fantasy managers with only four sides managing to obtain one.
Round 28 however breeds fresh hope into our teams as we once again go in search of those elusive six point returns from our defenders.
Patrice Evra (Manchester United) £5.0 million Fixture: Norwich (Home)
Patrice Evra has been immense at the back and fantasy managers are seeing the best points returns we have ever seen from the French international. Evra’s latest clean sheet against QPR last weekend now means that the United left back has produced either a goal, an assits or a clean sheet in nine of his last ten appearances.
Branislav Ivanovic (Cheslea) £4.7 million Fixture: West Brom (Home)
West Brom make up the opposition at the Bridge this coming weekend and as we discussed in our goalkeeper section on Petr Cech, the Baggies make the trip to London without their leading talisman Romelu Lukaku who is ineligible to play against his parent club.
Leighton Baines (Everton) £4.5 million Fixture: Reading (Home)
Despite the distinct lack of a clean sheet last time out it was not a complete loss for fantasy managers who made the investment in the England international. Baines was on hand to grab an assist as he set up Leon Osman for Everton’s only goal of the game.
John O’Shea (Sunderland) £3.5 million. Fixture: Fulham (Home)
The Black Cat’s defence has managed seven clean sheets this season which for a team in the position they are in is remarkable. When we drill down a little further we see that six of those seven clean sheets came at home, showing that they are far better defensively at the Stadium of Light.
