The best value forward in the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League game so far, Lambert has made a mockery of his £5.7 million price tag averaging five points per game with the newly promoted Saints.

At £5.7 million Lambert is great value up front with 11 goals and 6 assists this season.

Lambert’s rise through the football leagues has been well documented and with many feeling that the premier league may have be a step to far for the man from Liverpool to his credit he has proved them wrong and gone onto to score 11 goals and rack up 5 assits this season and as a result finds himself in fourth place in the striker standings.

The Saints have been on a fantastic run of late losing only two of their last ten games with Lambert chipping in with five goals and four assits during that time proving that he is hitting form at just the right time to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side avoid relegation.

Southampton are currently four points clear of the drop zone and despite their recent good form still have some way to go to reach that magical 40 point mark. The fixtures however look to be in the Saint’s favor with home games to come against QPR, Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham, West Brom and Stoke and with the Saint’s having taken points from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City recently they and Lambert will fancy their chances against these teams.

On their travels Southampton face Newcastle, Norwich, Reading, Swansea, Tottenham and Sunderland. These upcoming fixture will certainly prove a tough test for the Saints and Lambert, however with seven of his eleven goals coming on the road this season and two of his six assists the former Bristol Rovers front man will be in confident mood heading into the final weeks of the season.

Rickie Lambert certainly not be everyone’s idea of fantasy premier league striker but there is no doubting his talent and with goals against City, United and Chelsea earlier in the season his potential to produce is certainly there.
