Having been a fantasy favourite over previous season Leighton Baines has fallen in the estimations of many fantasy premier league managers after his seemingly endless supply of assists dried up over recent times.
Baines however seems to be making a return to form for the Toffee’s of late and has grabbed three goals and an assist in his last six appearance meaning he is now the top scoring defender in the premier league with five goals this season.
As far as Baines defensive record is concerned he has only managed four clean sheets this season but again with two of those coming in his last five games things are beginning to look up for the England international. As we eluded to in our goalkeeper section the Toffee’s have a habit of finishing the season with a flourish and once again this season we are expecting much of the same from the Merseyside club.
F0r much the same reason as those which have prompted us to take a look at Tim Howard the Toffee’s have a strong run of home fixtures remaining with Reading, Manchester City, Stoke, QPR, Fulham and West Ham set to make the trip to Merseyside in over the coming weeks. The interesting thing about these fixtures from a defensive point of view is that Stoke, QPR and West Ham make up three out four of worst teams when it comes from scoring goals on their travels.
All three teams collectively have only managed 27 goals on the road this season and just to put that into context both West Ham and Stoke have only managed to score eight goals away from home this season in comparison to Manchester United who have scored more goals away from home that all three with 28.
Away from home Everton’s games are not so clear cut with Norwich, Arsenal, Tottenham, Sunderland, Liverpool and Chelsea to come, but with Baines attacking capabilities coming to the fore over recent weeks these away days could well give the full back an opportunity to add to his impressive attacking returns. Baines seems to have a knack of getting offensive points on the road with two of his five goals and three of his five assists coming on the road.
