Jermain Defoe limped off against West Brom last time out as Tottenham went on to beat the Baggies 1-0 at the Hawthorns. Defoe’s day was cut short after he seemed to jar his ankle in an innocuous challenge.
Defoe was forced to withdraw from the England squad to face Brazil at Wembley last night, but was hopeful it was a minor knock and he would be ok to return to action in time for Tottenham’s clash with Newcastle at White Hart Lane this weekend.
Well unfortunately for both Defoe and fantasy premier league managers the news is not good. Tottenham have just announced that their striker has suffered ligament damage in his ankle and look set to be out of action for “three to four weeks”
There is however some good news for Spurs as Emmanuel Adebayor is set to return from the African Cup of Nations and is due back in London tomorrow, which should see him back in time for the Toon clash. This latest development could mean that Tottenham’s in form midfielder Gareth Bale could be forced back out to the wing due to the enforced reshuffled.
At the moment Tottenham are remaining tight lipped about whether Adebayor will be fit to go straight into the match day squad on Saturday, but if he is not, we could well see Clint Dempsey lead the line for Spurs come Saturday.
As always here in the managers office we will bring you any updates on this as soon as we get them so be sure to check back with us as the weekend approaches.
