Why The Purchase Of Pepe Reina For Your Fantasy Premier League Team May Not Be All That Crazy

Monday, February 4th, 2013 at 9:52 am by Paul Caffrey

Last Weekend Pepe Reina made a terrible mistake coming for a ball unnecessarily that saw Sergio Aguero score a wonder goal from the corner of the pitch for Manchester City to snatch a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

This mistake saw many Liverpool fans make comments such as “his time with Liverpool needs to come to an end” and “I would be delighted if the stories about Barcelona taking him are true”. So why does the Spanish No.3 Goalkeeper make it into our tips this week?

There are three reasons for this

1)Liverpool have a full strength defence to protect Reina

2)Brad Jones is not good enough to take his place,

3)Liverpool have two home fixtures against West Brom and Swansea giving him twice the opportunity to collect a clean sheet!

Despite missing 5 premier league games Pepe Reina has 7 Clean Sheets to his name coming against Stoke,Wigan,Swansea,Southampton, Fulham,QPR and Sunderland.

Over their next two Premier League games Liverpool are playing two sides that are struggling to score goals at the moment. Brendan Rogers will come up against his former team Swansea who have sold Danny Graham and more importantly they will be playing just before the Capital One Cup final which is the first major cup final in history for the Swans.

There are suggestions that players such as Michu may be rested and Liverpool will only have to defend against a team with one eye on the Cup final a few days later, which could work out very well for fantasy managers looking to take a punt of the Spanish shot stopper.
