With Daniel Sturridge making the return to his former club it would seem that the script had already been written for the striker to go and put one past Mancini’s men and that is exactly what he did.
Yesterday’s goal means for Sturridge now means that his fantasy potential is beginning to look fixture proof with the former Chelsea man registering attacking returns in every one of his league appearances for the Reds this season.
At £6.4 million Sturridge’s price tag offers fantasy managers a cheaper alternative than his Uruguayan striker partner Luis Suarez although worryingly for fantasy managers he was seen with an ice pack on his thigh after the game at the Eithad which has raised concerns about his fitness for the coming week.
Steven Gerrard is another who just can seem to stop scoring for Liverpool at the moment with the Reds captain rolling back the years and producing some of the best football we have seen from him in a couple of seasons.
Gerrard has now produced attacking returns in ten of his last 12 games registering five goals and nine assist in that time. Yesterday’s performance at the home of the champions will have brought his fantasy potential to the fore for many fantasy managers and with West Brom, Swansea, Wigan, Southampton and Aston Villa to come in the next six we could well see plenty more managers spending the required £5.8 million to obtain his services.
There one small word of warning for fantasy manager keen to invest tho, Liverpool do not have a fixture on the weekend of round 27 due to the fixture with Swansea having to be re-arranged because of the Swans involvement in the Capital One Cup final.
