Once again, Juan Mata and Frank Lampard grabbed the goals for Chelsea as they looked to close the gap on second place Manchester City but for the third time in four games the Blue’s just couldn’t hold onto a lead and eventually lost 3-2 to a Newcastle side full of French impetus.
The result a side Mata’s superb strike continued to help fantasy managers climb in the standings as he relentless goal scoring run continued with the little Spaniard now producing attacking returns in 15 of his last 17 starts.
With much talk and frustration over Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy at Chelsea Frank Lampard seems to be almost untouchable in the eye’s of the manager which is fantastic news for fantasy managers. Lamoard has now started eight of the last nine and has scored in six of those.
With Lampard’s future still uncertain we can expect even more from “Super Frank” as he looks to either secure a new deal at the Bridge or place himself nicely in the transfer window come the summer.
For fantasy owners of Demba Ba news that he would start against his former club will have come as great relief but that relief will have been short lived after he broke his nose in a challenge with Fabricio Coloccini and was replaced by Fernando Torres late in the first-half.
As yet, it’s unclear if he is expected to be sidelined for long but with Ba cup-tied for the Blues’ upcoming Europa League matches, if he can get the all clear to play we could see him back in blue in time for the home game against Wigan next weekend all depending on whether or not Benitez maintains his rotation policy of course.
