3 Game Ban Fellaini Out & Cazorla In? Fantasy Premier League Midfield Replacements

Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 at 11:10 am by Paul Caffrey

As expected Maroune Fellaini has been banned for three Premier League games and will not appear in an Everton shirt until the New Year. He has accepted a charge of violent conduct for his numerous clashes with Ryan Shawcross against Stoke last weekend.

The Belgium Midfielder is selected by 40% of fantasy premier league managers and it will be difficult to replace the inform midfielder who has racked up eight premier league goals and four fantasy football assists so far this season. With this big decision facing most Irish Times Fantasy Premier League managers we have decided to have a look at the best options available.

Michu (Swansea)

The top contender to replace the suspended Fellaini is Michu but with a 48% ownership rate there is a good chance you have him already. The Spaniard is having the season of his life with 12 goals and a single assist to his name so far this season.

Over the last four games Michu has scored 5 goals including a brace at the Emirate against Arsenal which nearly makes him fixture proof and an exciting option against any team in the Premier League home or away.

Cazorla (Arsenal)

Another option that will be the most popular move will be trading Fellaini for Cazorla who scored a hat-trick against Reading on Monday night. He is a Spanish international and although he has had some quiet games in an Arsenal shirt, he generally puts in a strong performance and it appears that Wenger is starting to get the quartet right around him with the return of Wilshere, Walcott/Ox on the right, Poldolski on the left and Giroud/Walcott as the main striker.

Perhaps jumping on the bandwagon and signing Cazorla might be slightly premature as he has only delivered 6 goals and 6 assists including his hat-trick and assist against Reading.

However it shpuld be noted that he has been Arsenal’s most consistent player and it has been others that have let him and failed to convert the chances he has created this season.

If we look at the period Fellaini will miss it see’s games against Wigan (A), West Ham (H) and Newcastle (H) followed by a trip to Southampton. They are all games that Arsenal will be looking to win and they will be depending heavily on their creative Spanish Midfielder to get the victories.

Snodgrass (Norwich)

For many Fantasy Premier League managers the inclusion of Robert Snodgrass will be a surprise the the Englishman is the third most inform player in the Premier League. The Norwich midfielder was the most creative player in round 17 of the fantasy premier league and he has delivered 2 goals and 2 assists in his last four games for the Canaries.

Norwich are unbeaten in their last 10 games which is a record only bettered by Barcelona at present, who have all but won the La Liga title before Christmas this season.

At a glance the fixtures for Norwich look difficult but is we take a more indepth look we see them travel to the Hawthorns to face a West Brom team that are not scoring goals compounded by the fact the Baggies have only collected 1 clean sheet in their last 7 games.

This fixture is followed by an interesting home game against Rafa’s failed Club World Cup Chelsea and with a difficult home game against Manchester City to follow. The following game is a trip to Upton Park which will see a struggling West Ham desperate to battle for points.

It may be difficult for Norwich to maintain their unbeaten run but with a 4% ownership, Snodgrass could be the differential that makes the difference.
