There is good news for both Andre Villas-Boas and fantasy premier league managers today as Tottenham announced that Benoit Assou-Ekotto has returned to full training after his recent injury troubles. Assou-Ekotto has been out for the past three months with a knee injury since early September and it seems that he is finally on the road to recovery after he took part in full training yesterday.
The Cameroon international has been Spurs’ first-choice left-back for the last four seasons, but he has been limited to three appearances so far this term after a niggling injury flared up in September. The 32-year-old, who won the club’s player of the year award last season, has played for the reserves and the under-21s in the last seven days and is said to be in contention for a return to first team action this weekend when Tottenham take on Swansea at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Asssou-Ekotto tweeted prior to training:
“Trainning with the team today !!! I hope as I‘ll remember the name of every one LOL.”
As we said this is good news for fantasy premier league managers who are in the market for an attack minded full back, Assou-Ekotto is certainly not shy about getting forward as he proved in round 2 with a goal against West Brom and it would seem that he return has will coincide with a nice run of fixtures for Spurs over the coming weeks.
The Londoners set to face Swansea this week at home before welcoming Stoke and Reading to the Lane over Christmas and New Years with away trips to Aston Villa and Sunderland sandwiched in between those games. Tottenham do however face Manchester United in Round 23, but with another favourable fixture as they face off against former boss Harry Redknapp in round 22 there is certainly plenty of time for fantasy managers to get their monies worth before the current league leaders roll into town.
