Both Raheem Sterling and Jose Enrique have been instructed to get into the box and support Luis Suarez as much as possible while adding goals to the team. Will you put your fantasy premier league faith in the out of position defender Enrique like Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers has?
Liverpool are unbeaten in eight games and 39 year-old manager Brendan Rogers is developing his squad of players and really putting his stamp on Liverpool’s style of play.
Jose Enrique has put in some great performances in recent Barclays Premier League games playing further up the park in the left wing position.
Investment is sure to rise in the defender that only has a 6% ownership rate as hes got a goal, assist and clean sheet last time out at Anfield against Wigan.
Enrique is playing with a new lease of life and fantasy premier league managers should take not of his latest comments:
“The manager has told Raheem and myself over the last few weeks that we have to help out in the box and score goals,” he explained to Liverpool FC Website.
Raheem Sterling has performed excellently since bursting onto the scene earlier this season and these new instructions saw Sterling get two assists against Wigan recently.
Enrique continued to comment:
“Every team needs to (get players into the box). If you put crosses in, you need people in the box. Otherwise no-one will be there to finish the chance. So I try to arrive as much as I can.
“In every game you see goals like where players are arriving near the goal line and they have just one touch to put the ball in the net.
This describes perfectly Enriques goal against Wigan and disallowed goal against Swansea last weekend.
“You don’t have to score an amazing goal all the time. So I think it’s really important to try and be in those positions and get goals from there.
“I think I can score more goals. Against Swansea I was unlucky. Even now I don’t really know if it was offside or not. I’ve seen it two or three times already and I am not sure. But it is already in the past, so I’m not going to worry about it.
“If I continue to play in the left-wing position then I am definitely going to try and get more goals because in that position you have to.
“I like playing on the wing because I really like to go and attack, like everyone does. Most people prefer to attack than defend. That’s just normal.
Brendan Rodgers is never afraid to make changes to his team and his latest changes are pleasing the Liverpool manager who is now eight games unbeaten. After a few games with Enrique playing at Left wing the Northern Irishman has been quick to give the Spaniard praise for playing so well.
Rogers commented “I think he’s been outstanding and it’s a great credit to him. He and I spoke earlier on in the season about trying to develop and improve his game.
“It’s an interesting one because he’s a real threat going forward with his pace and his power. You could see in the last three games how determined he is to get a goal.
“But you also see his defensive qualities because he’s tracking back. He’s been a real plus for us and it’s great to see because he’s worked very hard.
“It hasn’t been easy for him but I think you’ve seen his commitment. How he’s been working every day, you’re seeing that now on the field.
“I’m delighted for him because he’s good guy and he wants to do well for this club.
“Jose played in that position early on in his career but since he’s come to this country he’s played more as a full-back.
“You can see he’s got the qualities to play the role – he is an offensive player who has got great pace and power, can take people on and he’s a real threat when he gets into the final third.
“He’s comfortable in the position, which is important, and it gives us that great thrust at the top end of the field.”
