Selecting a goalkeeper can be a difficult job in the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League as you can be heavily rewarded if they keep a clean sheet but painfully punished with a minus points score if they concede a few goals. With this in mind we have a look at the prime candidates for the No.1 Shirt this week.
Tim Howard (Everton) – £3.7 Million Fixture: Southampton (Home)
Everton are third in the Premier League with two Clean Sheets contributing to that impressive league position. Although some have been slightly critical of the American he is a solid goalkeeper and considering the fixture list it might be time to change your player between the sticks.
The next six games offer real clean sheet potential as Howard & co face Southampton, Liverpool and Sunderland at Goodison Park and travel t0 Wigan, QPR and Fulham.
Simon Mignolet (Sunderland) – £3.4 Million Fixture: Wigan (Home)
Martin O Neill is using the same blueprint that saw him improve Aston Villa a few years ago, he has shored up the defence and made Sunderland a difficult team to play against. Clean Sheets at the Stadium of Light are something to watchout for this season and Mignolet is a cheap alternative to some of the more expensive Premier League goalkeepers.
Wigan will present a good challenge for Sunderland but with performances that Sunderland are putting in earning them a number of draws this game could be set up for a 1-0 and a clean sheet for the mighty Belgium goalkeeper.
