With all the happenings in the premier league so tightly entwined with our fantasy premier league decision our team in the managers room have been scanning the press and clubs sites with an eye on how some of this news could effect your Irish Times Fantasy Premier League team. There has been even more movement in the transfer market as clubs look to bring in those last remaining targets before the transfer window closes, which all have a knock on effect for fantasy managers and here are the ones you should be aware of ahead of this weekends team selection.
Nuri Sahin Signs For Liverpool
Brendan Rogers has taken another step to strengthening his squad as he secured the signature of Real Madrid man Nuri Sahin on a one year loan deal. The Turkish international has been our of favour with “The Special One” at Madrid and has opted to come to Merseyside instead London and Arsenal.
Brendan Rogers was full of praise for the 23 year old telling the press;
“It’s a great opportunity to bring in a top technician. For me it’s important players can technically participate in the game. I’ve got some outstanding players here but this guy has got experience as well for a young player of 23. He’s a master technician and that’s something important, that I’ve got players who can cope with the game.”
Sahin’s move to Merseyside does however intrigue all of us here in the Managers Room, the Real man is a central midfielder by trade, however the likelihood of Sahin ousting club captain Steven Gerrard is highly unlikely and the question has to be asked whether or not Sahin will feature regularly over the coming season and if so where will he fit into the side?
My feeling is that he could be brought in to play just off the striker in a 4-3-2-1 formation that Rogers has used before at Swansea, but for the moment we will just have to wait and see, but one thing is for sure Sahin is one to keep a very close eye on and if he can force his way into the first team, he may well force his way into your fantasy football team.
The South-Korean Swan
Swansea have been highly impressive early doors under new manager Michael Laudrup, but the new gaffer is not content with his lot which is evident by the new arrival at the club. Swansea have agreed a deal with SPL champions Celtic for the services of Ki Sung-Yueng, The 23 year old was an integral part of Celtic’s championship winning side making 30 league appearances chipping in with six goals and six assists.
It is another surprising move but Michael Laudrup explained that it was in fact the departure of Joe Allen to Liverpool that prompted the signing.
“Having lost Joe Allen recently, it was vital that we invested the money wisely by bringing quality young footballers into the club with potential to grow further. Ki fulfills that criteria and everyone in the football club is excited about the prospect of him playing and developing with us. His tactical awareness and quality has been there for everyone to see, especially playing for his country, and he is well suited to our style of football.”
With the Swans in top form ahead of the weekends fixtures I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ki Sung Yueng dropped straight into the starting line up on Saturday. However this is not to say that he will be full of fantasy points, the South Korean is a defensive midfielder and likely to remain that way with Michu set to continue in that advanced midfield role. It looks most likely that either De Guzman of Britton will make way for the clubs new record signing, so fantasy managers beware.
Spurs Waste No Time Splashing Modric Cash
Only hours after Tottenham eventually agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Luka Modric, they were back in the transfer market looking for an able bodied replacement and it didn’t take long for AVB to find one. Moussa Dembele is set to make the short move across London from Craven Cottage to White Hart Lane for a fee thought to be in the region of £15 million. Dembele has been on form so far this season for Fulham and AVB and fantasy manager will be hoping he can do the same for Tottenham over the coming weeks.
Dembele featured in a more defensive midfield role of Fulham last term and with Scott Parker out injured it is likely that Dembele will slot into the center of the park in place of young Livermore and he will certainly one to keep an eye on going forward.
The deal however is not quite done and dusted just yet, so it may be the case that we will not see him make his debut this weekend against Norwich, but by time the international break is over we should see him figure against Reading on September 16th.
So there you are some more new fantasy options for you to consider over the coming weeks.Don’t forget to check back in with us here in the managers room a little later today as we give you our opinions on some of the midfield talent likely to shine this weekend.
