Welcome to the latest offering from the Managers Room, with week 2 coming to a close yesterday evening we are hot on the trail of clean sheets for fixture week 3 of the Irish Times Fantasy Premier League as preview the goalkeeping options for the coming set of fixtures. The season is most certainly hotting up now and there were some great displays from the big men between the sticks last weekend.
We have done some early analysis of the upcoming fixtures and come up with some interesting clean sheet options for you to consider for you Irish Times Fantasy Premier League team.
Tim Krul (Newcastle) £3.5 million Fixture: Aston Villa (Home)
A fantasy favourite last year scoring 156 points and featuring highly in a number of teams Krul was one of most picked Keepers overall. The Geordies opening games have been among the toughest of all having played both Spurs and Chelsea but long term he should prove a sound investment after keeping 15 clean sheets and starting every game last season. This week they welcome Villa to town who have had a disastrous start losing both games and scoring only 1 goal. The big Dutch man made 4 saves against Chelsea and was done by a penalty from Hazzard and flash of brilliance by Torres. Villa don’t have this to offer going forward so he has to be a favourite for a clean sheet in week 3.
Brad Friedel (Tottenham) – £3.8 million Fixture: Norwich (Home)
The veteran American shot stopper just keeps on going and at 41 gives consistent performances in net every game. In a tricky tie against West Brom a side who themselves put 3 past Liverpool in the opening week Friedel made 3 good saves and showed why is still the Tottenham no 1. This week they welcome the Canaries to the Lane who have only scored 1 goal and conceded heavily against Fulham. With Spurs then facing Reading away and QPR at home now could be a good time to bring him in to the fold. He kept an impressive 14 clean sheets last year and with a good run of games to come the Spurs goalie could earn you points and score highly. He achieved a respectable 154 points last season showing that even in the twilight of his career he still has what it takes to play at the highest level.
So there are some options to mull over as we get ready for another round of fixtures, be sure to check back into the managers room tomorrow as we give you our thoughts on defenders for the coming weekend.
