As the end of the transfer window draws ever closer there has been a little flurry of activity around the grounds as a number of teams look to strengthen their squad for the coming season. Of course these are all transfers that many will be aware of but the question is this, What impact could they have on my Irish Times Fantasy Premier League Team?
The first bit of business worth looking at is the deal agreed between Manchester City and Tottenham for the services of Emmanuel Adebayor. The former Arsenal and Man City striker spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane and was eager to make the move permanent, however there seemed to be a bit of a stand off between Spurs and Adebayor over wages, but this has been all sorted and it reports are to be believed Abebayor has taken a pay cut to join the London club.
Many fantasy football managers will be delighted with this news of Ade’s return to the Lane after the Togolese Internationals highly impressive scoring record with Spurs last season. Adebayor notched up 17 goals and 12 assists last term and fantasy football managers will be hoping for more of the same out of the 28 year old.
This does however have a knock on effect for fantasy managers to consider and that is the fact that it now looks likely that Jermain Defoe will leave The Lane, with reports suggesting Sunderland are ready to make an offer for the England International.
Queens Park Rangers dipped their toes into transfer waters again it would seem to make it signing number nine of the summer as it is believed that Tottenham have excepted a bid thought to be in the region of £9 million for defender Michael Dawson. This news comes as no surprise to those fantasy football managers who watched the R’s poor defensive attempts against Swansea last week and it looks like Dawson could be the answer to Rangers problems.
With the fee agreed Dawson is set to complete a medical over the coming days and baring any complications, he should sign a four deal slot straight into the side. Dawson will however take some time to settle as he makes the move across London to Loftus Road, but he could certainly be one to watch over the coming weeks. The big issue now is which one of the other two center half’s will be dropped, my feeling is that it will be Onuoha with Ferdinand the preferred partner for the former England International.
After Monday nights epic win over Manchester United Everton have announced the signing of of Belgian international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiacos on a four- year contract. The 24-year old arrives at Goodison Park in a deal rumoured to be around £5m and is the Toffees’ third acquisition of the summer. Of course with Everton selling off Jack Rodwell to Man City it was clear that some of the money was going to be reinvested in the squad and Mirallas is quite an investment.
There is no doubt that Mirallas will be missed at Olympiacos after an impressive season last term saw him grabh 20 goals and 7 assists in 25 matches helping the club retain the league title. The Belgian can play on either wing, in “the hole” or also lead the line and as he hooks up with International team mate an man of the moment Marouane Fellini in the attacking third. There is a worry over where exactly this new exciting talent will slot in at Goodison and fantasy managers are well advised to keep an eye on him over the coming weeks.
