Giving business owners something to sing about

    John Collins

This just arrived in our in-box and we thought at a time when some are accusing the business media of being overly focused on bad news we should share it with you straight away.

Personally I think the use of barbershop choirs to launch new organisations is an under-utilised publicity tactic. On a more serious note goodbiz.ie seems to be an Irish take on the Better Business Bureau concept in the US. Such a move can only be welcome in the current climate.

Great way to promote a new business – check it out. Looks like a great idea

whereas the idea seems interesting the fact that goodbiz will cost your company 300quid to tell other businesses there you’re squeaky clean but wont necessarily generate any ‘newbiz’ seems a bit pricey for maintaining an online blacklist service. 300 quid for an e newsletter and admin costs? hmm…

Also what about those businesses who wish to express their solid credentials to customers who are the general public? They’re the ones most in need of a service like this. should they adopt a tactic similar to that of the butchers during the pork scare and get a big yellow sticker with a revenue certificate of “good credit” or “this business is liquid” plastered to the side of their shop?

Some really nice harmonies there! I wonder how much it costs to get the ‘we’re squeaky clean and guaranteed to sing in harmony wearing while red waistcoats’ cert?
