Ok, so we’re going to be sitting on the couch watching a lot of Olympics over the weeks ahead, but we’ll also be motivated to get out and race. As usual, this weekend has a good selection of things going on.

There’s the Knocknarea Mountain Loop 8 Mile Run and Walk takes place on Sunday in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. Walk kicks off at 10am, the run at 10.30am Register on the day from 8am to 9.45am at Sligo Enterprise Centre (Airport Business Park), Strandhill or on Saturday at Strand Celtic Clubhouse at Strandhill Community Park. Entry fees for the run and walk are €10 for the run and €5 for the walk.

If you’re in Galway, check out the Athenry AC Guess Your Time 10k. “No watches are allowed. Winners are those who can guess closest to their predicted time.” Just as important: “Afterwards there will be a burger and chips barbeque.”

Meanwhile, the Jog for Jockeys races take place at Leopardstown, Curragh and Limerick racecourses. A 5k run, they’ll give you a chance to pretend your a horse (rather than a jockey). If you must go as a panto horse, just make sure to be the front end.
