The Le Cheile Midnight Marathon took place in Leixlip on Friday night – or, more accurately, at 00:00 on Saturday. (Peter Mooney took a great set of pictures.) It consisted of 105.5 laps of a track. In the dark. Here’s a report. Here’s a video from the night. Fair play to everyone who did it. Lunatics one and all.
The Strawberry Half Marathon was on yesterday. Provisional results are here, as are those of the Eireman X tri and the Galway Simon Women’s Mini-Marathon. There are mini-marathon pics here.
There are a whole heap of pictures from Saturday night’s Dunshaughlin 10k – where the weather somehow calmed down just at the right time. And there are a whole heap more from Peter Mooney on Flickr.
In the meantime, while you’re recovering from the weekend Caroline Reid is running the 129km Wicklow Way today. 129km! She’s hoping to be the first woman to finish it. She left at 4am this morning and hopes to complete it after midnight. Here’s what she says on the Irish Mountain Running Association’s forum.
“The furthest I’ve run to date is from Marley to Drumgoff, so its hard to predict times, but I expect it will be roughly like this:
4am Marley
6.15am Curtlestown
8.30am Lough Tay
9.45am Oldbridge
11am Glendalough
1pm Drumgoff
After this I expect the body may start falling apart and the times will get harder to predict but I hope to finish approx 12 midnight.”
