Tolan: Quite numerous: Dublin, Belfast, Galway-Mayo, Donegal. Ir. Ó Tuathaláin (see Tohill). A sept of Donegal who moved to Connacht in 1602, but see Toland.
Toland: fairly numerous: Derry-Donegal, Belfast etc in Ulster; Galway-Mayo in Connacht. Irish: Ó Tuathaláin, dimin. of Tuathal, ruler of people. Despite displacement in 17 cent, they are still well-represented in Ulster. MIF.
