Loane: fairly numerous: Tyrone-Fermanagh and Ulster generally, also Cork. Ir. Ó Luain from luan, a warrior. There were two septs: (1) Oriel (Armagh-Monaghan), (2) Limerick. The southern people have, by mistranslation, become Lambe. MIF & SGG.
O'Loane: Quite numerous: Antrim etc. Ir. Ó Luain, luan, a warrior. Often changed to Lambe in south. The sept was located in Oriel (Armagh-Monaghan) SI.
O'Lone: rare: Dublin, Antrim. See O'Loan.
Ó Luain: O'Loan, Loan (Lambe): cuíosach líonmhar: Aontroim-Tír Eoghain-Fear Manach & rl. Bhí clanna in Oirghialla agus sa Déis Bheag, Luimneach. Scaipeadh iad araon agus deineadh Lambe des na Muimhnigh agus cuid des na h-Ultaigh. Brí: luan = gaiscíoch.
