Dean: numerous: Belfast, Dublin, Cork and all areas. It corresponds to a number of names: Norman le Den, one of the "Tribes of Galway"; Ó Déaghain in Tipperary; Mac an Déaghain in Donegal. The latter derive from déaghan, dean (ecclesiastical).MIF.
Deen: Very rare: Limerick. See Dean(e).
Ó Deaghain: Deane: tá an sloinne gallda líonmhar ar fud na tíre ach baineann an ceann dúchasach le Tiobraid Árann. Brí: is dócha, an téarma eaglasta déaghan (Laidin: decanus). Uaireannta fágadh an "g" gan séimhiú: féach Mac an Déagáin.
