Farnan: Quite numerous: Belfast, N Midlands. Ir. Ó Farannáin, Forannán was a popular first name in early Ireland. The family were erenaghs at Ardstraw, Tyrone. SGG.
Fearnon: Very rare: scattered in Ulster. Ir. Ó Fearnáin, according to Woulfe, an abbreviation of Ó h-Ifearnáin which is however a southern name. Ó Farannáin (Farnan) appears more apt. SI & SGG.
Fernane: Very rare: Kerry. Ir. Ó Farannáin. See Farnan.
