Colonial Scots-Irish Immigrants: The Irish Records - Genealogical Societies and Journals

By Kyle J. Betit

The following three genealogical societies in Northern Ireland have accompanying genealogical journals which can be important resources of information for tracing Scots-Irish ancestors. The journals include some extracted local records; these can be accessed using Periodical Source Index (PerSI). In addition, each of these societies publishes "members' interest lists" which list genealogists tracing particular ancestors or surnames.

Irish Heritage Association: The Old Engine House, Portview, 310 Newtownards Road, Belfast BT4 1HE, Northern Ireland. Publishers of the quarterly journal, Irish Heritage Links, formerly Irish Family Links.

North of Ireland Family History Society: c/o Queen's University of Belfast, Dept. of Education, 69 University St., Belfast BT7 1HL, Northern Ireland. Publishers of the biannual journal, North Irish Roots.

Ulster Genealogical & Historical Guild (part of the Ulster Historical Foundation): 12 College Square East, Belfast BT1 6DA, Northern Ireland. Publishers of the annual journal, Familia: Ulster Genealogical Review.
