SHORTS:IF YOU'RE planning a long haul trip this winter via a UK airport look out for an increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD) which is due to kick in on November 1st.

The tax will see £60 (€69) (economy) to £120 (€138) (premium) added to flights to the US from the UK, £75 (€86) to £150 (€172) added to medium haul flights – up to 6,000 miles away – and £85 (€98) to £170 (€196) added to long haul flights.

Dublin, Paris and Amsterdam may pick up business from travellers trying to avoid the tax.
