Looking to bring your horse on hols? Then check out Old Forge Glamping, the country’s newest posh camp site.

Just launched by Belinda Bielenberg – who is a grand-daughter of the late author Christabel – at the family farm in Co Wicklow, it’s the perfect option for those for hoping to spend more time in the saddle this summer.

Humans stay overnight in fully furnished yurts and bell tents, while equines are lodged in stables and a walled garden. Both are guaranteed to sleep well, not least because the major attraction here is a chance to hit the Munny Trail, a specially created 12km riding path across the 600-acre farm.

Along the way are a series of 56 cross-country jumps ranging from fixed fences and fallen logs to water features and schooling banks. And if you don’t like the look of any of them, don’t panic, there’s always an easier way around.

What is really striking is the the scenery here. Nestled between
Lugnaquilla and Mount Leinster, it's a beautiful part of the country and way off the typical Wicklow tourist trails.

And because the Munny Trail actually consists of two trails, you can head off around the second one next day.

The Munny Trail costs €25 to ride for adults and €15 for kids. Glamping rates start at €25 per person, with each tent sleeping four. Dobbin stays for an extra tenner.

If you’re of a certain persuasion, that is, horse-crazy, you’ll be hard pressed to enjoy any outing more this summer, this side of the RDS.
