THE SOCIAL NETWORK:The former president of the High Court Richard Johnson was enjoying a quiet morning at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday when some younger members of the club turned up to practise for the William Fry Junior Lawn Tennis Championships 2012, which run from tomorrow until next Saturday.

The competition is open to spectators and there is no entry charge.

More than 400 aspiring champions from across the country will compete. Former winners include Conor Niland and Sam Barry. Hoping to follow in their footsteps is Peter Mimnagh-Fleming, from Slane, Co Meath, who attends the National Tennis Academy at DCU. As well as playing tennis, Nicola Drummy, from Blackrock, Co Dublin, is a “maths athlete”, which means she’s a whizz with figures and should smash through her Leaving Cert in a few years.
