Smokin' sandwiches

The simplicity of the menu at Dublin City Food belies an exciting new project on Andrew Street, Dublin 2. The seven sandwiches on offer are each named after an area of Dublin ending in O – Monto, Pimlico, Rialto, Phibsboro, Marino, Casino and Portabello – and made using Irish meats smoked and/or roasted in the cafe’s basement kitchen, including the house smoked pastrami.

The cousins behind the new venture, Brendan O'Connor and Adam Dickson, want to "raise the standard of delis in Dublin while keeping prices low", and the pair plan to open a restaurant on the first floor later in the year. For now, sandwiches are served on sourdough or granary with a side of ruby slaw for a January-friendly €6.50, and with soup (gluten-/dairy-free and vegan) for €8; facebook.com/dublincityfood.
